Investigator named “Science bright spark”
15 January 2012
Associate Professor Michael Hay, a member of the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre and a Maurice Wilkins Centre investigator, has been named by New Zealand’s North & South magazine as amongst the country’s 2011 “science bright sparks”.
The magazine recognised Michael’s work discovering a new class of chemicals that fight cancer by starving cancer cells of energy. It noted that the joint project with Stanford University heralds a new type of treatment for cancers that could lead to clinical trials in humans in around two years.
