Miss Emma Walker
I am a PhD student in Te Huataki Waiora School of Health at the University of Waikato, under the supervision of Dr Joanna Hicks and Dr William Kelton. I am passionate about contributing to the race against antibiotic resistance in Aotearoa NZ. As such, my PhD research focuses on the intracellular lifecycle of Neisseria gonorrhoeae. In particular, how intracellular gonococci survive and how we may be able to therapeutically target them. In 2022, under MWC Flexible Funding, I travelled to the University of Arizona to learn the ins and outs of working with N. gonorrhoeae. This opportunity has allowed for substantial progress in my research; I look forward to joining the ECSC and helping other ECRs have similar opportunities.
