Dr Georgia Lenihan-Geels
Georgia Lenihan-Geels is a postdoctoral scientist in the Group of Immunology and Cell Biology, headed by Professor Anne La Flamme, at Victoria University of Wellington – Te Herenga Waka. Georgia carried out her PhD at the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam, where she investigated the molecular mechanisms by which p53 regulates energy metabolism in muscle and brown adipose tissues. After graduating from her doctorate in early 2021, Georgia returned to Aotearoa to continue her academic research career. Currently, her work aims to improve our understanding of the cellular and pathological processes in multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases. Georgia hopes to combine her expertise in metabolic research with her passion for immunology and neuroscience to help uncover new avenues for therapeutic intervention in neuroinflammatory diseases.
